Developer appetite appears to be returning to the ailing apartment market, with plans for more than 1000 apartments in Perth projects seeking approval over the past three months.
The projects to recently face the Inner Metro Joint Development Assessment Panel — analysed by The West Australian — indicate a big jump in activity compared with the same period 12 months ago, when planning authorities considered projects with fewer than 500 apartments.
Not all the proposed projects will come to fruition, but the increase in applications seeking approval signals a change in sentiment. The flood of recent applications include for some project that have been on ice for years, including a 22-storey tower at 43 Burswood Road. By Sydney developer Marprop, it signals another hot trend — the rise of the one-bedroom unit.
